On Combovers….
11 JunI found the following picture:
and decided it was time for a post about the worst combovers ever. I’m not sure if there IS such a thing as a good combover, but these are the worst of the worst. I mean, not even this guy can pull it off:
and if anyone could you know it’d be this little guy.
So here’s my Top 10 Worst Combover Gallery:
And last but certainly not least:
Next, Moustaches!!

Pic of the Day
1 JunAlso while exploring the city, I happened upon this sign:
You’d think somewhere between concept and production someone would have picked up on this one….
Also,
you’d think someone would have told her to tone down the lip liner a bit.
And,
you know this guy didn’t get so tan overnight, so why make no effort to even this out a bit?
Basically one can only conclude that *drum roll* people are dumb.

Exploring NYC #2
1 JunSo the next day I wanted to start on the book, and I picked #525: Kiehl’s Drug Store. One of the older and family run drug stores in Manhattan (over 150 years old, actually), Kiehl’s is decorated in vintage harleys. Vintage harleys + beauty products? I had to check it out, and I enlisted a friend to help me out.
Then we decided to stop for some pie:
Pie features eclectic decor, square pizza, an array of beers, and board games such as
There was a lot more strategy to that game than I remembered…
Next was the strand bookstore, also a feature in the top 1000, though I forget the number.
Famous for its endless selection (18 miles of shelving, to be precise) the strand was a great place to wander for a bit and pick up some light reading (catch 22, one day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, you know, the average bedtime story about Stalin)
Next on our journey was the apple store, where I played with the iPad for a little while. That thing would eat up soooo much of my time playing games I can’t even imagine.
One block away on 15th and 9th is one of the best kept secrets I’ve stumbled upon so far: The Chelsea Market. An underground, moustache-themed paradise of gourmet goodies and eccentric fare, featuring a running waterfall, unfinished brick walls, and framed pictures of the most magnificent moustaches on record. Yep. Moustaches.
Also notable was the cake store, which featured very realistic and eatable interpretations of some of my favorite cartoons, such as:
A trip to Chelsea wouldn’t be complete without seeing High Line park, the newest addition to the parks of Manhattan, the High Line rests on the old train tracks that led to 34th street. With the trains no longer in use, the tracks have been turned into a park above the street, with some of the track still visible running between the plants. When finished, the park will run all the way from 10th to 34th!
The park is complete with viewing areas over the streets:
High Line was a really interesting place, and one of many contradictions. You’ve got train tracks running between trees floating above 10th ave and rushing traffic, and at the same time overlooking the river. It’s just one of those places that could only exist in New York.
We ended the day by walking all the way to Grand Central, stopping for a
on the way, before thoroughly COLLAPSING back home:
Just another day in the city

Exploring NYC
29 MaySo a few of you have been complaining that I haven’t updated recently, and to you all I say:
The reason I haven’t been writing lately is I’ve been having too much fun! (and a bad case of strep throat, but that’s besides the point.) Last Saturday a friend of mine came into the city, and I took her to the basic tourist-y sites – Grand Central, the public library, Rockefeller center, top of the rock, etc. While up at the top of the rock, I found this book:
and with this book, I found a new life goal. I’ll give you one guess. Yup, finish the book. I figure it’ll take about 15 years or so, but I don’t think I’m going to be living anywhere else anytime soon, so WHY THE F*** NOT?!
What’s so great about exploring NYC is you can go to see one thing, and on the way home you’ll find about ten other things. Here’s some photos from the things I’ve seen in the past couple days:
And the view was awesome. Overpriced, but hey, it’s new york…
You know what else is awesome with aviators?
Good ole Rock n Roll.
And who said being a tourist couldn’t be fun?! We even saw a guy propose:
The woman seemed surprised that there was a news crew standing five feet away. I was thinking, it’s times square, what do you expect? Though I would be a little flustered too – not the best time to have a camera pointed in your face. Still, I think she’ll be happy when she looks back on the night. Bet he will too, cuz you know you’re getting lucky after a diamond that big. If a guy can’t get some after that, there’s really no hope for anyone.
So ended day 1 of exploration…day 2 tomorrow

22 MayOver the last couple of days I have had multiple conversations about hipsters. Being from art school, I consider myself something of an expert on the topic. I found this outline that, I think, accurately shows the progression of the hipster style:
A personal favorite activity of mine is to sit in my cafeteria and see how all the other students fit in to the outline. They think they are being soooo original…
And speaking of hipsters (particularly the Mountain Man in 2006), this should be their homepage:
On an unrelated note, I found this video. RIDICULOUS:
On Russia…
18 MayI’ve been reading Dostoyevsky, and I guess I had Russia in mind when I happened upon this:
This is exactly what pickles in Russia WOULD look like:
Between the sad pickles, the pensive bears and the troubled writers, who knows what going on over there! But Russia isn’t all bad…in fact there are a few things in particular I love about it:
The warm greetings:
The dedication to athletics:
Their advanced animal rights:
And the right to bear semi-automatic weaponry:
Good Ole Mother Russia! Nastrovia!

14 MayHere were some awesome links I checked out today.
I was designing some letterhead and envelopes for work this morning and I went looking for inspiration. I saw these amazing business cards and it really helped me, forgive the pun, push the envelope:
I think what makes all of these so great is the interactivity. All of them engage the holder in some way, and most in an amusing way. No one will forget a business card that can make them laugh or that they can play with.
In my search I also found these cool ads on buildings:
Lastly, you HAVE TO watch these Sony Bravia Ads they are INCREDIBLE. Keep in mind there is no CG here!
